About Ernesto
Harringay drum teacher Ernesto Marichales, originally from Caracas in Venezuela, is one of the city’s most exciting drum teachers. He currently has slots available in his studio based at the south end of the “Harringay Ladder”.
Ernesto first starting playing percussion at the early age of eight. What’s even more impressive is that he then start touring professionally just two years later, when he was ten! Since then, his career has taken him to London – via Buenos Aires and New York – where he balances teaching alongside his extensive performance work.
Ernesto has played with an array of impressive artists which are too numerous to list in full but include Yungblud, Sigala, Craig David, Jordan Rakei, Tom Misch, John Newman, Loyle Carner, Nile Rodgers, BNXN, Waaju, Scribz Riley and The New Regency Orchestra.
He’s also performed at some incredible festivals such as Glastonbury, V Festival, Womad UK, Montreux Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival and Nice Jazz Festival. He’s also been seen at venues such as The O2, Brixton Academy and, Ronnie Scotts, and has been heard on NPR Tiny Desk, BBC World Services and Jamie Cullum’s BBC Radio 2 show.
Ernesto has had a bunch of mentors, including Cuban maestro and composer Tata Guerra, Nene Quintero and the Yamaha School for Classical Guitar in Venezuela, Simon Wallace, Pete Zeldman, Pete Cater, Sid Gauld, Dave O’Higgins, Richard Brooks, Graham Fox, Mark Armstrong and Bryan McLellan to name but a few.
Ernesto has written music for commercials including Wella Sassoon, 7up, BMW, Bayer and Gatorade. He was previously the Musical Director at the London Cabaret Club and also performed percussion in the band for the hit West End show Motown The Musical. As of 2023, Ernesto has credits on more than 25 albums.

Qualifications
Harringay drum teacher Ernesto completed his BA (Hons) in Music Performance and Production at the renowned London Centre of Contemporary Music (LCCM) in 2013. Previously, he also studied ethnomusicology and photography. As a result he holds a degree in Mass Media and Communication from the Santa Maria University, Venezuela.
Ernesto also taught drum kit at London City Academy and London Centre of Contemporary Music between 2015-2017.
In 2017 Ernesto won the Musician of the Year prize at the UK Latin Awards (also known as the LUKAS Awards).
Ernesto is also DBS checked.
