About Peter

Originally from Hampshire, Hackney drum teacher and multi-instrumentalist Peter Udall has a wealth of experience – ranging from playing live on an international level, to teaching locally within east London. Peter is a great communicator, extremely reliable and, most importantly, a really friendly teacher who is experienced in building solid working relationships with his students.

Peter studied his A-levels at Alton College. Here, he played in the big band, the jazz band and the jazz collective, alongside many other bands in a range of genres – from pop to rock, and even folk. Seeing his potential, Alton College asked Peter to teach in the college’s Rock School where he taught a range of students from 11-16 years old. His passion for teaching developed, which led him to work at Highfield Prep School as a teaching assistant in the music department before then turning his attention to a degree.

Peter moved to Leeds where he studied drums at Leeds Conservatoire (formerly Leeds College of Music). Here he achieved his BA (Hons) in Music. Whilst at the conservatoire, Peter played in the Contemporary Jazz Orchestra and also won the prestigious Conservatoire Prize in his second year. Whilst in Leeds he also taught at Yorkshire Music School (Saltaire), before then moving to east London.

Peter has a wealth of experience performing live with a variety of artists. He regularly plays live both in the capital and further afield. Artists he’s played with include the pianist Julian Joseph and the hugely popular Renegade Brass Band. Peter has also performed at major European jazz festivals. These include Jazz Sous Les Pommiers – sharing a stage with Ron Carter – and Düsseldorf Jazz Rally.
